Over the weekend, there was a fire in Ladyville, Belize District that destroyed the home of former journalist, William Neal. On Saturday afternoon at around 2 o’clock, Neal’s neighbor noticed smoke coming from the roof of the house, and informed Neal, the police, and the fire department. Fire fighters responded to the scene but despite their best efforts, the blaze consumed all the contents of Neal’s home and damaged the infrastructure of the concrete building. Neal, whose mother passed away on Friday, was not at home at the time.  He did tell Love News that he isn’t suspecting foul play. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Hilberto Romero, says the police is working with the fire department and echoes Neal’s sentiment that the blaze was a malicious act.

Love News understands that the house was insured, but its contents were not.  A value of the total loss is yet to be determined.
