Belize may have a new US Ambassador come next year as President Joe Biden has announced that he will be nominating Michelle Kwan for the post. The 41-year-old former Olympic figure skater issued a statement following Biden’s announcement, saying, quote, “If confirmed, I will be very proud to serve my country.” She added that, “Belize is full of incredible history and culture, and has been a tremendous partner to the United States. I look forward to working with the Belizean government on economic issues, to put an end to this pandemic, and to address the root causes of migration.” End of quote. The nomination is expected to be sent to the US Senate but there is no telling if and when it would be approved. The last serving US Ambassador to Belize was Carlos Moreno who was in office from June 2014 to January 2017. He was appointed under the Obama Administration.
