Former Minister of Police, Michael Peyrefitte, has declared that there is a new level of crime being seen, particularly in the northern districts. According to his observations, Peyrefitte says there is no longer a respect or regard for the law.
Michael Peyrefitte, UDP Chairman: “We are looking at a new level of lawlessness and a lack of fear and respect for security forces. There is the genuine feeling by people, especially criminals, or people who just want to resist law and order. They believe they can just call someone and the police will have to back off. They believe that law enforcement can do nothing to them and it has created – it started from way back you know remember when Micho Chebat’s driver at the beginning of this government it’s been three years now you know when he said caught on tv saying “this is our turn now, we’re in power now.” That’s the sense you get from this government and the people who support this government that there is a lawlessness that never existed before. It’s time, you know, it’s time that we start focusing on the PUP. In a couple months, it will be three years they’ll they’re in government. They had all the answers when they were in opposition. Minister Musa, CEO of Arthurs, had all the answers when they were in opposition. They can’t seem to handle one particular section of the national security apparatus, which is police. There is an all time low morale in the police department. They do not respect their leadership. They don’t want their leadership. And I repeat, the prime minister needs to remove Kareem Musa, Kevin Arthurs, and Chester Williams and put new leadership into the police department so they can be a department that creates a healthy fear in the citizenry of the country and absolute fair in the hearts and minds of criminals and would be criminals and that’s why all of this is happening right now.”
