Former Security Guard Sentenced to Three Years for Stealing from School

A Belize City man has been sentenced to three years in prison after stealing from his workplace.  32-year-old, Jermaine Jason Haulze, was a security guard for St Luke’s Primary School in Belize City but is now at the Belize Central Prison.  Last week he appeared in court for burglary where he pleaded guilty.  He explained to the magistrate that he needed to pay school bills for his daughter and that he took money from the school out of desperation.  The magistrate took his confession, a character statement from his foster mother and his remorse into consideration and deducted one year from his 4-year sentence, resulting in three years.  Haulze was caught on surveillance footage entering a Standard One classroom and taking two bags of money, totaling six hundred and thirty six dollars.   The incident occurred on June 8.  His sentence takes effect from Thursday, June 13.
