Founder of the Belize Zoo Passes Away

The founder of the Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center, 66-year-old Sharon Matola, died yesterday at the St. Luke’s Hospital in Belmopan. An announcement from the zoo reads (quote) "While we deeply appreciate the outpouring of love and support that you all would wish to share, we ask for patience, and respect of the privacy of The Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center family.”

The founder of the Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center, 66-year-old Sharon Matola, died yesterday at the St. Luke’s Hospital in Belmopan. An announcement from the zoo reads (quote) “While we deeply appreciate the outpouring of love and support that you all would wish to share, we ask for patience, and respect of the privacy of The Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center family.” (unquote) Prime Minister John Briceno expressed condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Matola who dedicated her life conserving, protecting and advocating for Belize’s wildlife.
