Four injured in shooting incident in Belize City; images caught on camera

Police are still trying to determine the motive behind the shooting incident that left three men and a woman hospitalized. That incident took place on Wednesday night shortly before eight o’clock at a Chinese store on Faber’s Road. Surveillance footage that surfaced shortly after the incident shows that several persons were at the store when two men arrived on separate bicycles and seconds after they opened fire at a small group of men who were socializing at the corner of the store, next to a concrete fence. The hail of bullets also found their mark on one woman who was inside her vehicle at the corner of the shop. ASP Alejandro Cowo, head of the Crimes Investigation Branch in Belize City provided more details of the incident in this morning’s press brief.

ASP Alejandro Cowo, CIB: “They were called out to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, that was just minutes before 8PM where upon arrival they observed three male persons and a female suffering from various gunshot wounds to their body. The persons that were injured are Tricia Bengushe, Sylvester Bahadur, Michael Requena and Emerson Requena, all of them sustained several gunshot wounds to their body. All of them were admitted in a stable condition, one Tricia Bengushe has been treated and released this morning. What police gather so far is that last night just before 8PM all these persons along with other persons were in front of a Chinese Store located on Central American Boulevard with Fabers road when they were suddenly approached by two male persons who came on separate bicycles and thereafter opened fire upon the group of male persons injuring the above mentioned persons. We had the opportunity to view some footage in the area and we are working with different establishments to see if we can retrieve that footage that definitely can assist us with this investigation. We still don’t have a motive as to why this shooting happened.”

Reporter: And you can’t say who was the target or if the group of guys were actually the targets?

ASP Alejandro Cowo, CIB: “We are not in a position at this moment to say if there was anybody specifically who was the target. As I mentioned it was a group of persons and the person just fired directly at the group of persons not just one person.”

Police say they are looking for two suspects.
