Four police officers were this afternoon arraigned at the Corozal Magistrate’s Court for the death of 20-year-old Derrick Uh. They are inspector Isaias Sanchez, Sergeant Rosario Romero, PC Alrick Borland and PC Errol Peralta. They were read a single charge of manslaughter. The four law enforcement officers are accused of causing the death of Uh who was detained on Sunday morning and left inside a police prison van for almost fourteen hours. He died of a heat stroke. Both the Commissioner of Police Chester Williams and Home Affairs Minister Kareem Musa have conceded that Uh’s death was caused by gross negligence. The officers were released on a ten thousand dollars bail and two sureties of five thousand dollars each. They were also given bail conditions. PC Peralta is being represented by Attorney Norman Rodriguez who spoke to the media.
