Today, fourteen individuals proudly graduated from the Community Health Worker Program, marking another step forward in Belize’s efforts to strengthen its grassroots healthcare system. The graduation ceremony celebrated the hard work and dedication of these new frontline health advocates, who will now return to their communities equipped with the skills to provide essential care and education. Minister of Health and Wellness, Kevin Bernard, emphasized that these persons are pivotal in the functioning of the programs.
He noted that with this latest cohort, the Ministry is nearing its target of training 300 community health workers across the country, a key component of its national health strategy. The Community Health Worker Program plays a vital role in expanding access to primary healthcare, particularly in underserved and remote areas. With each new group of graduates, the Ministry moves closer to ensuring that no Belizean is left without access to basic health services.
The CHW program was initially developed in 1982.
