Members of the environmental community continue to raise issue with several actions, which may have serious ramifications on fragile ecosystems in the country. The Placencia-based organization, Fragments of Hope resigned from Blue Economy Ministry’s cluster in February because the cruise ship industry’s inclusion under the branding of the blue economy. More than that, the organization’s executive director, Lisa Carne (karn) argues that sewage, waste pollution and destructive coastal development will do much more harm than good. She spoke to our newsroom.
In the February letter, Carne wrote to CEO Kennedy Carrillo that her organization will quote “…will never be condoning mass cruise ship tourism nor label it blue simply because they utilize the sea”. We will have more from our discussion in tomorrow’s news.
