Despite objections from the People’s United Party, the Belize National Teachers Union and the Bar Association of Belize, Franz Parke was sworn in as a Justice of the Court of Appeals. Since the announcement of his appointment, many objections have been raised. The primary objection is that Parke does not possess the qualification to sit as a Justice of the Court of Appeals. In response, during a press conference, Prime Minister Dean Barrow said that quote, “Franz, as bright as he is and with all the experience that he has, will make a fine Justice of Appeal.” Parke was officially appointed by the Governor General on the advice of the Prime Minister this morning.
“I Franz Park do swear that I will bear true faith and allegiance to Belize and will uphold the constitution and the law and that I will conscientiously, impartially and to the best of my ability discharge my duties as a Justice of Appeal and do right to all manner of people without fear or favor, affection or ill will so help me God.”
