Free Education Pilot Project Begins in Southern Belize Secondary Schools

Free education is rolling out in the south as a total of five secondary schools in the Toledo and Stann Creek Districts are a part of the pilot project.  Minister of Education, Francis Fonseca, had reported back in March that the free education project not only includes tuition, but also one meal per day, uniforms and text books.  PUP Senator Bevinton Cal of the Toledo District has been instrumental in promoting the benefits of the free education program in the south.

Being from the South, Cal expressed how emotional it is to witness the launch of this project. He shared that he personally has firsthand experience witnessing parents struggle to send their children to school and hopes everyone takes advantage of this opportunity.

Later this week, we will hear from the Minister of Education, Francis Fonseca, on what the expectations and hopes are under the free education initiative.
