The current area representative for the Freetown constituency, Francis Fonseca, says he is unfazed by the UDP’s incoming Freetown Standard Bearer, Alobi Young. Fonseca’s former opponent, attorney Orson “OJ” Elrington, has agreed to vacate the post and make way for Young. Today, Fonseca, who has won the Freetown seat in every election since 2003, weighed in on whether the opposition’s decisions are concerning.
Hon. Francis Fonseca, Minister of Education: “Yeah I know Alobi. Alobi studied in Taiwan I believe so obviously he’s the grandson of Sir Colville Young so I know Alobi. Not well but I know him as a young man I’ve interacted with a few times so you know I’m sure he’s a fine young man and I always have great love for the artists so the fact that he’s a musician and artist makes me even more fond of him.”
Reporter: Sounds like you will vote for him sir.
Hon. Francis Fonseca, Minister of Education: “So I’m sure he’s a good guy but you know like everybody else that comes to Freetown he will learn the hard way that the people of this constituency are absolutely focused on work and moving forward so you know we never have concerns about Freetown everybody else does and everybody always predicts what will happen here and every time we prove people like Jules wrong. So we’re gonna continue to do that.”
Young is the grandson of former Governor General Sir Colville Young and a trained musician.
