The Belize City Council today introduced the new license plates for City residents and also announced the opening of applications for personalized license plates. The initiative, says Mayor Darrell Bradley is to raise funds for the city council. He explains that the council is trying to move ahead with the trade license reform that is costing the council approximately one million dollars. The sale of the personalized license plates is allowing the council to earn revenue for that project. As of today, 500 plates are available for sale at one thousand dollars per plate. Councilor Bernard Pitts displayed both new plates at a press conference this afternoon.
A concern arose surrounding the new personalized plates when its effectiveness when dealing with traffic accidents was questioned. Will personalized plates hinder the legal processes? Mayor Bradley doesn’t think so.
