Galen University to Train BDF and Coast Guard in New Development Deal

This week, Galen University met with senior officers within the Belize Defence Force and the Belize Coast Guard, to discuss collaboration on professional development. The meeting is a follow-up to one held earlier this year with the BDF, but the Coast Guard joined since the entities are both under the Ministry of National Security. The working group focused on developing a memorandum of understanding that would see Galen University develop professional development courses for security personnel. Zain Dueheney, Criminal Justice Program Coordinator, Galen University, said that the end goal is to develop professional courses where security officers can obtain qualifications that would serve them even if they leave the service.

Dueheney noted that it remains to be seen if the BDF and BCG will sign a joint MOU or will do so separately.
