In just a week, Galen University will be holding an official investiture ceremony for the university’s president, RSV Media Center’s CEO, Dr. Rene Villanueva. The grand event will be held at the Belize Biltmore Plaza on April 12. Dr. Eve Aird, Provost at Galen, explained that Dr. Villanueva has already begun his work as president, but the ceremony carries on a tradition in academic circles.

Dr.Eve Aired, Galen University: “Well, technically, Dr. Villianueva has assumed the office of the president of the Galen University on the 1st of January. What we are preparing for next week is his formal investiture ceremony and that’s a very official ceremony that is steeped in a lot of academic tradition. We will have, it will consist of an academic procession with all the faculty, the board of trustees, the board of directors dressed in the regalia. During the ceremony, Dr. Villanueva will be divested of the traditional academic regalia and he will be invested that is dressed in the presidential robes that is befitting of the president of the university. We are one week away, actually exactly to the day, next week Friday afternoon at 3 o’clock, we gather back here at the Biltmore Plaza and that’s when the ceremony will take place. Our plans are very advanced and we’re just ready for it to happen now. So we’re right there. This is the first ceremony that I will participate in. I joined Galen on the 1st of August in 2003 when we already had a president. I left in 2008 with that very same president and I returned in 2014 and again we had a president but there wasn’t a formal ceremony. So this is the first formal ceremony that I will participate in, that I’m aware of.”
Dr. Villanueva is the university’s fifth president. He also served two terms as Chairman of the university’s Board of Trustees.
