Garifuna Settlement Day Celebrations Honor TV Ramos, Advocate for Garifuna Culture

As Garifuna Settlement Day draws near, activities to honor and pay tribute to Garifuna legends continue. Last night, the culture capital came alive with residents proudly parading in celebration of the life of Vincent Thomas Ramos better known as “TV Ramos, who died on 13 November 1995. The cultural icon played a fundamental role in lobbying for the establishment of a national holiday for his people and was an all-around advocate of Garifuna Culture. Stann Creek Correspondent Harry Arzu spoke to Ivan Ramos, one of Ramos’ grandsons, about the importance of keeping his legacy alive.
