Quick response from Police Officers in Belize City led to two men being detained following a robbery on the George Price Highway. Sometime after four o’clock this evening two armed men entered Gas Tomza and assaulted two workers in search of money. According to the victim they only managed to steal two cell phones before running away. Their escape was botched when police responded quickly and caught the thieves near the Lord Ridge Cemetery. According to the owner of Gas Tomza, Aureliano Bautista, updated security measures make it easier for them to collaborate with the police.

Aureliano Bautista, Owner, Gas Tomza: Two persons came in here looking for money however we have safety measures in place which allowed for the robbery to be very minimal. The persons were armed and made the workers very nervous and thankfully one of them only received a hit to the head due to them not finding any money. I plead to all the businesses out there to be on the lookout especially during these times.”

Shortly after the robbery the media met up with Police Commissioner Chester Williams who shared the preliminary findings on this incident.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “Yes there was a robbery at Gas Tomza on the George Price Highway about an hour ago and again the police’s quick response to that matter resulted in the apprehension of two suspects and the recovery of the items stolen. Again I want to commend the police officers who responded and all the other police officers working across the country who have really and truly stepped up and ensure that law and order is maintained throughout the country.”

Later in our newscast we’ll share with you an interview with the Police Commissioner on the increase in robberies across the country.
