Gaspar Vega resigns from politics

It has only been forty eight hours since Patrick Faber was elected as the UDP’s Leader-Elect, and already he has seen the resignation of three elected officials.  The most recent comes from Gaspar Vega.  A letter surfaced today, purportedly from Gaspar Vega to the UDP Chairman, Michael Peyrefitte informing him that he (Vega) will not be seeking re-election once his term in office ends.  The 5-paragraph letter states, quote, “it was not an easy decision as I truly love and value the people of Orange Walk North and thoroughly enjoyed serving them throughout my three terms.”  End of quote.  Vega goes on to say that he will remain a UDP and will assist in finding a suitable replacement for the division.  According to Vega, who served as Deputy Prime Minister for a period under the Barrow administration, noted that his decision came following careful thought and consultations with his family and friends.  Vega joins Wilfred Sedi Elrington and Ashton McKenzie who both announced their retirement from electoral politics within the last week.  Love News reached out to the UDP Chairman who verified the authenticity of the letter.
