In addition to repairs and upgrades to existing structures and roadways, the ministry will be focusing on repairs and upgrades to existing roadways, including the George Price Highway and the Philip Goldson Highway. The MIDH’s Chief Engineer, Evondale Moody, explains that the George Price Highway will undergo significant rehabilitation and expansion.
Evondale Moody, Chief Engineer, Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing: “The George Price Highway has not been upgraded since I believe the 1980s. There was some resealing that was done in the 1990’s early 2000’s but that was just to resurface the pavement itself to bring it back to a more durable standard however the road has not been upgraded and so our project is to completely rip up the entire road and build a new highway using the same formation of course and also addressing a number of the bridges along this route that also needs to be replaced. The road will be significantly widened for the entire length. We’re adding on an approximately four meters which is two meters on either side to accommodate cyclists and also a hard shoulder. So the pavement itself will be very wide.”
