Gilroy Usher Jr., the son of newly elected Minister of State, Gilroy Usher Sr., appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today charged with aggravated assault. The 44-year-old businessman was accused of attempting to run over his sister 37-year-old Monica Usher, with his Ford F150 pickup truck on March 12. In court, he pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of two thousand dollars plus one surety of the same, which he met. As part of his bail conditions, he cannot have any contact with his sister or any of the prosecution’s witnesses. Before being granted bail Usher had to settle a $50 fine for an unpaid traffic violation back in 2017. He is due back in court on May 5. Outside the courthouse he said that the allegations are baseless and are rooted in a long-standing family dispute.
In her report to police, Monica Usher said that her brother made two attempts at running over her that day. Gilroy junior said that he has since filed a police report against his sister.
