The Girl Guides Association of Belize is celebrating its 100th anniversary. Business persons and residents are being asked for assistance in acquiring a headquarters in Belmopan. Cayo Correspondent Fem Cruz spoke to the Girl Guides Commissioner West, Emily Martinez.
Emily Martinez, Girl Guides Commissioner: “This month is celebrated as Girl Guides month and we’re launching a project where we are asking for a contribution and a pledge of $100 to put a Mennonite house on our land for a campsite for the Girl Guides Association of Belmopan. This project is in honor of Ms.June Heusner who was a guide, a commissioner in the Belmopan area. The land is located opposite the community preschool in Belmopan and we also want to thank the Mayor of Belmopan for assisting with the project that we’re embarking on. So we’re asking every person to commit or to assist us for this project because then remember peace building is in the heart of guiding and in these times where there is an increase of crime and the COVID era we need to be uplifted so we’re trying to have projects that will uplift the girls to help them cope with the situation that we’re in. There is a pledge form that is going out and the pledge forms will be distributed all over Belmopan. The account number is Scotia Bank 9136122. “
