The Government of Belize and the Turneffe Atoll Sustainability Association (TASA) are working together to improve the country’s natural resource-based economy. Last weekend, GOB’s CEO Caucus visited the Turneffe Atoll Marine Reserve and got a first-hand experience of how a Marine Protected Area is managed. During the visit, TASA presented a proof of concept on the Blended Finance model it tracks to possibly fund the reserve. TASA’s Executive Director, Valdemar Andrade explained how the NGO, which co-manages the area, can better assist in raising funds to protect and preserve the atoll.
Andrade further explained that the presentation entailed a showing of TASA’s technology solutions that are used to gather data on the status of the Turneffe Atoll.
