GOB Condemns Israeli Attacks on Palestine, Calls for Immediate Ceasefire and Humanitarian Aid

The Government of Belize is condemning the ongoing destruction in Palestine due to attacks from Israel and is calling for the violence to end. GOB issued a statement today saying that it is greatly concerned about the destruction spreading from the Palestinian territories of Gaza to the West Bank, and now to Lebanon. Addressing the social impact of Israel’s action, the government also condemned the use of civilian devices such as pagers to aid in the indiscriminate killing of civilians. The government wrote, quote, “this cycle of violence is illegal, immoral, and inhumane. It must stop. Israel must immediately abide by the decisions of the International Court of Justice, agree to an effective ceasefire, allow humanitarian aid to flow into Gaza unimpeded, and lift the illegal siege of Gaza. There must also be an immediate, unconditional release of hostages held by the resistance groups and by the Israeli state.” End of quote. The government has also called on the United Nations Security Council to implement the UN General Assembly’s resolution on Israel’s illegal actions in Palestine adopted on September 18. According to international media, Israel launched a series of air strikes in Gaza today that have killed at least 21 people.
