Cabinet met in regular session on Tuesday where several reports were tabled including the replacement of the Haulover Bridge, the design of an e-passport and the education strategy plan. The local contractor selected to make a new bridge to replace Haulover was M and M Limited. The bridge is being done at a cost of thirty million Belize dollars. Interestingly, this amount is twenty nine million dollars less than what the Barrow administration was looking to spend on the bridge from previous bidders. In other Cabinet news, Government of Belize has approved the design proposal for the new e-passport system and the e-passports. Minister of Immigration reported to Cabinet this week that the new system will be introduced in July 2022. Also getting full approval from Cabinet was Minister Francis Fonseca for Belize’s Education Sector Strategy Plan 2021-2025. Other reports presented in this week’s Cabinet meeting was from the Ministry of Health, as well as NEMO.
