On Tuesday, Cabinet gave its approval for the establishment of an entertainment and recreation park with Designated Processing Area (DPA) along the northern border in the area where the casinos are located. This is to allow for the area to be transitioned into a Special Border Entertainment and Recreation Zone to take advantage of the opportunity that exists in developing the tourism potential in the area. Minister Mai spoke more on this.
Jose Mai, Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise: “It is the zone between both borders. I think the request to convert it to an EPZ it would be for entertainment that area. It’s a good idea, it is outside the freezone because the free zone is fenced up but people have been requesting that that area can develop and generate a lot of foreign exchange and employment for our people and I support the idea and Cabinet will discuss this briefly, in principle we agree that I think we should go ahead and make it into an EPZ. That again is with the Ministry of Finance, the Prime Minister he can speak more on that but I do support the idea.”
Reporter: Okay but I imagine it won’t be this year.
Jose Mai, Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise: “Well again it’s full speed ahead once Cabinet has decided we move on it as fast as we can.”
