In related news, the Sugar Industry Act will be going back to the drawing board, says Minister of Agriculture, Jose Mai. None of the parties involved is accepting the legislation. The act is designed to allow the Minister of Agriculture to deal with disputes related to sugar cane associations. Minister Mai says that Belize Sugar Industries Limited has expressed that it doesn’t support an act which seeks to strip the factory of powers.
Minister Mai says that GOB has contracted a consultant from Jamaica to assist in the revision of the act.
