There was recently a video circulating on social media of a group of children who were left stranded at a bus stop in the morning. The reason for that is that the school bus assigned to that route was filled. This has been a concern for parents and teachers as schools begin to reopen. We asked Minister of Transport Rodwell Ferguson about this and how his ministry is working with the Ministry of Education to resolve this long-standing issue.
Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Youth, Sports, and Transportation: “Government of Belize, Ministry of Education provides transportation for the majority of Primary and High School students across the country especially in the south. We are analysing the entire route to make sure that that does not reoccur because with the school opening then it puts more pressure on the operators to provide the transportation. So our team is monitoring the situation to say okay well we need more buses here and more buses here. So, definitely we’re addressing it.”
