The Government of Belize has paid most of its five million dollar debt to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH). This is according to CEO Chandra Nisbet-Cansino. The hospital’s financial unit has collected several lump-sum payments from GOB since November of last year for the monies that were used to renovate the KHMH’s COVID unit. According to CEO, Chandra Nisbet Cansino those payments have greatly assisted the KHMH with its daily operations and bills. She says that the hospital is now negotiating how they can collect the remaining sums of money owed.
Chandra Nisbet Cansino, CEO, KHMH: “The government has given KHMH I think several tranches of $500,000 and so it has gone a long way, it has helped us a lot. There is still a little bit more that we’re trying to negotiate. We still have a lot of outstanding bills, we’re still trying to improve in our area of collection and so that relationship certainly is going positively.”
