Government and San Benito Poite Village Leaders Sign Agreement for Mini-Grid Electrification Project

The Government of Belize and the leaders of San Benito Poite Village, Toledo signed a consent agreement over the weekend for a mini-grid electrification project. The endeavor seeks to construct a mini-power grid in the remote community to provide residents with a stable source of electricity. It is being funded by the European Union through its “Lait up Belize” project and will be implemented by Belize Electricity Limited. Yesterday, our newsroom spoke with Minister of Rural Transformation Oscar Requena about the agreement and how it will impact the Mayan community.  

Requena also expressed great gratitude to the parties involved in the agreement’s signing.
