Government Approves Establishment of Firearms and Ammunition Control Board Amid Reports of Illegal Gun License Sales
Amid recent reports of the illegal selling of gun licenses, the government has approved for the establishment of a Firearms and Ammunition Control Board. The board will be tasked to provide regulations and criteria for the approval of firearms licensing, including training and certification of license holders; and to develop a plan for the digitization of a firearms and ammunition licensing system to replace the current manual system. Recently, the Police Commissioner, Chester Williams, announced that he had identified at least one police officer who had been taking bribes to push through for gun licenses to individuals. The issue was placed on the forefront after the Leader of the Opposition, Shyne Moses Barrow kept harping on the issuing of gun licenses to persons with criminal records.
