The Ministry of Public Utilities, Energy, Logistics and E-governance (MPUELE) has initiated a project aimed at bolstering sustainable farming in Belize. MPUELE has launched the distribution of Pico solar kits to pig farmers across the country. These kits are expected to reduce farmers’ dependency on traditional energy sources, which are not only costly but also less sustainable. The kits are equipped with a high efficiency solar panel, LED lighting and a charging port. These components are expected to significantly improve the operational efficiency of farms, particularly by helping farmers protect their livestock from threats. The initiative includes training and support to help farmers integrate the new technology seamlessly into their daily operation. MPUELE has partnered with the Pig Council Association and the Belize Livestock Producers Association to ensure the effective distribution of 100 Pico solar kits. These kits were funded by the European Union under the Lait up Belize Technical Assistance Project.
