Recently, there were reports of a chicken shortage. We went looking for answers and found that for Quality Poultry Products there was no shortage. The Poultry Association did, however, confirm that there was a shortage. It turns out that the challenge was primarily for Caribbean Chicken. In recent weeks their coolers have been have filled and there is a notice in their Belize City store limiting customers on how much each person could purchase. Minister of Food and Agriculture weighed in on the matter.
Godwin Hulse, Minister of Agriculture: “Problem is that you know there had to be a sudden state of emergency with respect to Blue Creek and that’s where Caribbean Chicken is concerned and there was a little issue with movement of chicken from there which I think has been sorted out by now. So that may have contributed to this issue that oh poultry will be short but we don’t have any official report at the Ministry that this is so. Indeed I do hear rumors and while I don’t act on rumors I have asked my people to check.”
