Government Invests in Upgrades for Belize Defence Force Facilities

The Government of Belize is making investments to several facilities for the Belize Defence Force to increase the quality of life for the soldiers. This week, Minister of State in the Ministry of National Defense and Border Security Oscar Mira, said that highlighted to major projects in the works; the renovations to the Forward Operating Base (FOB) on the Sarstoon River, and upgrades to Fairweather Camp in Punta Gorda. He stressed that these upgrades form a part of the government’s commitment to ensuring that the soldiers have the best so they can perform at their best.

In mid-2022 the BDF limited its presence at the FOB as the facility was in desperate need of repair. Those repairs did not commence until earlier this year; however, the BDF maintains regular patrols within the area and conducts joint operations with partners such as the Belize Coast Guard. The Belize Territorial Volunteers, which has been one of the major advocates for the repair of the FOB, has also been conducting civilian patrols on the Sarstoon
