In a significant stride towards bolstering agricultural resilience and market accessibility, the Government of Belize, has announced the commencement of a crucial infrastructure project aimed at enhancing the livelihoods of small farmers in the Toledo District. Under the Resilient Rural Belize Programme, a six-year initiative spearheaded by the Ministry of Economic Development, the government has signed a contract worth approximately 1.85 million dollars with A&N Construction to upgrade the vital farm feeder road in Trio Village, Toledo District. This aims to ensure year round access to farmers, facilitating climate-resilient agricultural productivity and improved market access by providing upgraded road and drainage systems. Dr. Geraldo Flowers, Program Manager of Resilient Rural Belize spoke with Love News about how this can improve the way we farm during the rainier parts of the year.
The initiative marks a pivotal moment in Belize’s commitment to fostering sustainable agricultural practices and improving the economic prospects of its rural communities.
