The Government of Belize has moved to extend the curfew for an additional 30 days starting March 4, 2021. The amendments are made to Statutory Instrument Fourteen of 2021 which gives exception to March 3 when the curfew will begin at 8pm. Additional amendments made to this SI includes the exemption of testing, meaning that anyone landing in Belize with proof of having received the two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine would not be subjected to testing. Another change to the SI has to do with the PCR tests for those entering Belize. Previously the test was required to be taken 72 hours prior to arrival, that has been changed to 96 hours. As for the municipal elections, it is important to note that it will not be a public and bank holiday, although employers will be expected to give workers time to go out and vote. The recently amended SI provides for the prohibition of liquor sale up until 6pm on election day. The amendments to the SI become effective on February 28, 2021.
