Government of Belize is planning to implement more social protection measures to assist Belizeans with the increasing cost of living

The Government of Belize is planning to implement more social protection measures to assist Belizeans with the increasing cost of living. The government implemented price control measures earlier this year, much to the ire of the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry BCCI. CEO of the Ministry of Human Development, Tanya Santos, says that in the most recent meetings, the Chamber has raised several concerns and suggested alternative social protection measures for the public.

The Chamber of Commerce maintains that research does not support price control measures as a means of battling inflation. The BCCI has suggested that one of the initiatives that should be explored is having the private sector provide support to the government’s grocery bag social assistance program.
