Government Plans to Rehabilitate More Football Fields Across Belize
The Government of Belize has earmarked monies to rehabilitate more football fields as they did with the Berger Field. Prime Minister John Briceno made the announcement today on Vibes Media, saying that the initiative on Vernon Street was very well received and has inspired the government to do more projects.
Hon. John Briceño, Prime Minister of Belize: “We need to give credit where it deserves and that is to Anthony. Anthony was the one that had the vision to be able to go to Berger field and to fix it and to have really first class facilities. I mean, I’m so proud of what Anthony has done. And for not a lot of money. When you compare to the Civic Center where they spent about $34-$36 million here in one area and have a direct impact in the community and young people and even I get excited and you know how long I haven’t been on football – well the last time it was over there to take some shots to the goal I mean, you know, it give you some good memories when you were young and I used to play a lot of football all over the country. But you see the excitement of the community, you see the excitement of the parents. We need to duplicate this. We don’t have to reinvent it the wheel. We done see this we are going to now to Lake I. We already found half a million dollars that we will invest in the Lake I behind the complex. And then we also want to do one in Port Loyola. And like that we want to do it in Orange Walk too. I mean please let’s not forget Orange Walk. Orange Walk Central 30 years I’ve been working for them and in the rest of the country, it’s not a lot of money. But we need to do it, again, we have competing needs. So we have to plan it out but we said we were going to do MCC grounds hopefully by the end of this year.”
