In today’s session, the Supplementary Budget was brought before the Senate as the government seeks the approval for one hundred and six million dollars in addition to the monies that were earmarked for this fiscal year. It is a steep request as it reflects 67% of what was approved at this year’s budget reading in March. Opposition Senator, Mike Peyrefitte, did an in-depth comparison in the budget and questioned several areas and line items where more monies were being requested.
A very interesting question posed in this morning’s debate over the supplementary budget was by Senator for the private sector, Kevin Herrera. He questioned whether the government has stopped practicing austerity measures. He reminded the Senate that it was just at the last budget reading that the government had exercised multiple measures to ensure unwarranted spending and revenue losses.
As for the Union Senator, Glenfield Dennison, he called on the public officers to assist in ensuring that proper budgetary projections are conducted to avoid having to come back to the House for additional financing.
