This weekend, the government is paying homage to Garifuna Legends, Paul Nabor and Andy Palacio. The Office of the Prime Minister has partnered with the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Tourism to hold the grand spectacle in honor of the cultural icons. The event is taking place at the Jaguar Reef Resort in Hopkins Village on Friday night. Cabinet Secretary Stuart Leslie says everyone is invited and urges Belizeans to go out and support their Garifuna brothers and sisters.

Stuart Leslie, Cabinet Secretary: “This is going to be a one of a kind tribute concert. We feel it’s a good time to pay tribute to Andy Palacio and Paul Nabor. It’s a segue into the whole weekend of 19th celebrations. It is going to be on the beach and we are featuring some of our young upcoming Belizean Paranda stars and Punta Rock artists and it’s free. So we invite Belizeans to come down to Hopkins and to celebrate the beauty of the music and the dancing that will be on display. We’re combining a bunch of different forms. We’re combining steel pan with the SJC steelpan, Pallottii string ensemble along with the national choir that you always see perform during September and of course the iconic Garifuna Collective. So it’s going to be a special event for those who can’t make it it will be on Channel 5 and Channel 7 and Love FM and we invite Belizeans to come down to Hopkins, put on your cha cha cha and come you’re invited.”
The event will be aired live on Love Television.
