Government to Pursue Redistricting, PM Briceno Outlines Next Steps

The Government has indicated its intention to carry out the redistricting exercise in this second term.  Prime Minister Briceno says his administration will look at the draft proposal and chart a way forward based on the report.

John Briceño, Prime Minister of Belize: “I said that before the end of 2026 but I suspect, I’m giving myself up to the end of 2026 but I will aim for 2025, by the end of 2025. So we’re going to take a look at it and then I think I want to we’ll look at the report that the Elections and Boundaries did and they’ll have to take a hard look at it and see what changes or how they can reconfigure the recommendations that they did.”

The redistricting exercise will look at the balancing the amount of voters in each division, making it a level playing field when it comes to serving the people.
