The Ministry of Infrastructure Development is working with its tourism counterparts in upgrading and improving Secret Beach on Ambergris Caye. It’s been some fifteen years since a road linking the mainland to the area has been built. Over time, the area has become a popular destination on the island. With that popularity, however, tourism officials have observed several setbacks and challenges which Tourism Minister, Anthony Mahler, says they will be improving.

Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism: “If you look at Secret Beach, and again I said this yesterday, Secret Beach is a very important part of our product. No light, no water, no solar, no zoning, no nothing..”
Ernest Vasquez, Host, The Morning Show: And the last time I went it was crowded.
Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism: “Crowded, people build things in the water, they knock down, I mean there’s no organization, there’s no control everything seems out of control there and it’s too important of an attraction for us not to get it right. So I’ve been talking to Minister Julius Espat to ensure that we try to create some zoning out there. He presented a document for building codes which is going to start and then he said he’s going to move towards zoning.”
