Governor General takes a trip to Japan

The Governor-General H.E. Sir Colville Young left Belize on Saturday on a trip to Japan. He joined heads of state at the invitation of Japan to witness the enthronement ceremony of a new Japanese Emperor today.

The Governor-General H.E. Sir Colville Young left Belize on Saturday on a trip to Japan. He joined heads of state at the invitation of Japan to witness the enthronement ceremony of a new Japanese Emperor today. The emperor, Naruhito, declared his reign earlier this year after his father, Emperor Akihito, abdicated after 30 years on the throne. While on Saturday, Naruhito received a sword, a jewel, an official seals in sacred ceremony, that was only a prelude. Today, he formally declared his ascension to the world’s oldest monarch. His father was the first empower to abdicate in over 200 years. In Sir Colville’s absence, the Cabinet Secretary will act as Governor-General.
