A mechanic’s life was cut short this afternoon just after one’clock on Police Street Extension in Belize City. 25-year-old Gregory Martinez was working in his garage along with 53-year-old Lindsford Garay and his uncle, Kirk Ramclam when a lone gunman entered the garage and fired several shots in their direction. Garay was grazed by a bullet and an injured Martinez fled the scene towards Mahogany street. Martinez made an attempt to escape by jumping in a Dollar van. Unfortunately, the gunman caught up with him and fired several shots at the van. Unconfirmed reports indicate that the driver of the van was hit along with a female passenger. Love News understands that Martinez passed away at the Karl Heusner Memorial hospital while receiving treatment. Love News was on the scene and was able to speak to Martinez’s aunt, Apolonia Ramclam who gave her account of what had transpired.

Apolonia Ramclam, Aunt: He was my nephew I raised him from when he was bout seven months. Until this day I just don’t know what is the problem, why they come and just kill him I don’t know.

Reporter: Where were you when this happened ?

Apolonia Ramclam, Aunt: “I was about to get ready to go to school.”

Reporter: What did you hear while you were inside?

Apolonia Ramclam, Aunt: “I just heard the gunshots rang out. I came out and when I do realize it wasn’t my husband nor one of the guys and all I remember is my nephew and my nephew just took and ran, I could not see which direction he went. I guess his life was in danger from Friday night when the accident happened because it almost happened in front of the garage so I know they came for him. He has a two year old. He is a loving father, a loving nephew, you could ask him to do anything he would leave what he is doing to go and do the errand that you asked for. I took my life from I know myself I cannot explain any more. I went through so much things with those guys, I lost his brother seven months ago, I lost my brother two years ago, I still can’t get justice I don’t know what more I could ask for.”

Gregory Martinez is the brother of 21-year-old Gian Martinez who died on July 29 in a road traffic incident on the Phillip Goldson Highway. Gregory leaves behind a one-year-old daughter.
