A wanted flyer has been issued by the police department for Cesar Agusto Lopez Mendoza in relation to the murder of Juan De Cruz Carrias that occurred on Friday. Carrias was fatally chopped in Succotz Village, Cayo District. There is the possibility the Mendoza, who is a Guatemalan, has jumped the border, but police are still on the hunt for him. Senior Superintendent Hilberto Romero spoke of the case during today’s press brief.
Sr.Supt. Hilberto Romero, Deputy Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch: “On Thursday the 10th day of October 2019 police responded to a report of a chopping incident in Succotz Village. They visited a wooden house in the village where they found the lifeless body of Juan De Cruz Carrias, 56 years, with chop wounds. He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. We have two suspects we are seeking for this murder and they have not been found.”
Reporter: We know that he lives in Santa Familia, is it known what he was doing in Succotz?
Sr.Supt. Hilberto Romero, Deputy Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch: “Well he was there with two other male persons and these are the persons we are seeking at this time. Searches are being done for them but they have not been found. Information is that they have fled from that village.”
Reporter: We know that Mendoza is a Guatemala and being that Succotz is just a few miles from the Melchor Border and countless illegal crossings, is it a suspicion that he may be across the border?
Sr.Supt. Hilberto Romero, Deputy Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch: “Yes there is a possibility that he made it across as he has not been found or seen in that area.”
On Friday, we spoke to Carrias’ daughter, Idolly Sanchez. Here is a snippet of that interview.
Daughter of Deceased: “My father was a well known person, if you ask anyone about him they would tell you he was very friendly. This news of what happened to him really shocked us. We are going through a very difficult time right now, we don’t know exactly what happened. My family is really devastated with what is going on. Anyone who sees him by the road or pass him by or see him they will be hailing him “Hey Johnny !” he was loved by many people.”
Police currently have no motive.
