Every few months, the police make checks at the Benque border with Guatemala and find Guatemalan nationals daring enough to bring weapons and ammunition over the border. Senior Superintendent Hilberto Romero, the Acting Head of the National Crimes Investigation Branch said that on Saturday at two they searched a Guatemalan National at the border parking lot and uncovered ammunition, a pistol and a shotgun.
Sr. Superintendent Hilberto Romero (Acting) Head NCIB: “Police conducted a search on Romero Cardona Zapata, a Guatemalan National at the parking lot by the Benque Border where police found on him a 9mm pistol. A further search inside a Hilux pickup was conducted where police discovered a twelve gauge shotgun along with an assortment of ammunition for the 9mm pistol and the shotgun. Romero Cardona Zapata has since been charged with two counts of possession of an unlicensed firearm and two counts of possession of unlicensed ammunition. He was at the parking lot that is situated at the Benque Border in Belize.”
Guatemalan National, Romeo Cardona Zapata has been charged for the unlicensed weapons and ammunition.
