Guilty Verdict in Three-Year Murder Trial: David Gonzalez Convicted of Wife’s Murder in San Pedro Town

After three years on remand, David Gonzalez’ murder trial concluded today with a guilty verdict.  Justice Ricardo O’Neil Sandcroft handed down the judgment this morning with sentencing deferred to December 14.  Gonzalez’ murder trial began in July 2022, stemming from the murder of his wife, Marisela Gonzalez in San Pedro Town.  The wife’s nude body bore a gunshot wound to the head, and was found near the dump on the island on October 12, 2020, near Marina Drive.  Following the trial’s proceedings was the victim’s sister, Myra Guzman, who was brought to tears this morning after the verdict.

Myra Guzman, Murder Victim’s Sister: “I just say thank God because it’s been so difficult for me to say this and I’m so thankful that the judge came to this decision. I know that my niece will be living a better life without him. I don’t know, I’m just thankful for this. It’s not been easy for any of us especially my mom. Even his daughter would go through some rough times but I think she’s better at this point and I’m just glad that she could be away from him. She saw everything that happened to her mom so she has good understanding of that so she doesn’t ask much about it but she’s good.”

Prosecuting the case was Senior Crown Counsel, Riis Cattouse.  The couple had one daughter who is now six years old.  The murder of Marisela Gonzalez was the only homicide recorded for San Pedro Town, for the year 2020.
