Over the past six weeks, there have been reports of a hail storm out west, as well as severe thunderstorms. Just this past weekend, residents in Sarteneja Village, Corozal, reported a thunderstorm so strong, that it brought damages to some of their boats, trees and roofs. The Deputy Chief MET Officer, Michelle Augustine, explained to Love News that it’s nothing to be too concerned about.
Michelle Augustine, Deputy Chief Meteorologist: “Typically around this time of the year particularly from the month of May but from mid May to say the end of May we tend to have extremely warm temperatures or what most persons would term has hot temperatures because the atmosphere is very hot outside right now. But these same very hot temperatures tend to increase the amount of thunderstorm activity that we see or the thunderstorm development and in some cases these thunderstorms can become very severe which is what happened in the case of Sarteneja and in Belmopan and most recently yesterday in Cayo.”
