Apart from the alarmingly high amounts of foreign objects being delivered in the cane, there are other factors are affecting the efficiency of sugar production at the mills. The recent downpour has left cane fields in a muddy and mucky state. Minister May explains that these conditions do affect the quality of canes; however, this type of weather isn’t unusual for this time of the year.
Jose Abelardo Mai, Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise: “It does and it will affect the amount of cane that will be milled every day that passes you know the weather we’re running into the rainy season. So from what I’m seeing I’m not sure if we’ll be able to mill all the sugar cane out there this year. I’m hoping that they will, I’m hoping that the weather will hold up but it all depends on the boss above.”
