Hattieville Resident Granted Bail Following Alleged Assault with Pint Bottle

A Hattieville resident is out on bail after she allegedly threw a pint bottle at another female during a dispute. 21-year-old, Whitney Dawson, appeared unrepresented before a senior magistrate in court where she was read two charges: one count of aggravated assault and one count of damage to property. The backdrop of the case stems from Tuesday when at around 1:30pm, Arilee Somerville reported to Police that while she was walking on Dean Street, Dawson uttered to her, quote, “Dah what you have with me and my sister?” End of quote. The woman says that Dawson then threw a pint bottle at her which caught her on her back and caused her cell phone to fall and break. Dawson initially pleaded guilty but after the facts were read out in court, she did not agree with everything that was said. Dawson says that she was coming out of her yard to buy food when she saw Somerville staring at her, prompting her to ask her a question.  It is at that point, where Somerville allegedly slapped her, and she reacted by throwing a pint bottle at her. The senior Magistrate of Court rejected Dawson’s guilty plea and entered an equivocal plea of not guilty on her behalf and offered bail in the sum of $1,500 plus one surety of the same amount (which she met). Conditions to Dawson’s bail are that she must not interfere with the virtual complainant or any of her family members. Dawson’s next court date is set for May 24.
