Health Director Explains Generator Failure at Hospital

Reports of a power outage in Belmopan and other areas of the country have led to stories of challenges and dilemma faced by those on duty at the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan.  Stories have been circulating of doctors having to use the lights from their cellular phones to deliver a baby since the generator at the hospital was not functional.  Love News spoke with Dr Marvin Manzanero, the Director of Health Services for some answers.

Dr Manzanero went on to explain that while daily maintenance is carried out daily on the generator, there seems to have been a malfunction upon the power outage.

As to the explanation behind the power outage, the Belize Electricity Limited issued a release explaining that two transmission structures were severely damaged as a result of a traffic incident which led to countrywide power interruption at around one thirty this morning.  The duration of the power failure was experienced for about eleven minutes to three hours in some areas.  The two poles destroyed in the accident near mile eight on the Western Highway has been fully replaced.
